We are excited to share an incredible opportunity to make a lasting impact on the local economy and food security in Mozambique. We are launching a chicken hatchery project on our 17-acre farm as an extension of our existing poultry project, and we need your support to bring this vision to life!
Due to political unrest during last year’s election, Mozambique’s economy suffered, disrupting key industries, including poultry. The supply chain for chicks needed for broiler farming has become almost nonexistent, leaving farmers struggling to sustain their livelihoods. Currently, only one supplier in the northwest region provides chicks, but their capacity is limited.
At a recent industry meeting, our farm manager, Joseph, learned firsthand about the urgent need for a reliable source of chicks. This situation presents an opportunity for us to step in and bridge the gap, providing much-needed chicks to local farmers, strengthening the poultry industry, revitalizing the economy, and generating additional revenue for the ministry.
To establish our hatchery, we must overcome several critical challenges:
Rebuilding Our Chicken House: A severe storm caused the roof of our large chicken house to collapse. We need to rebuild the roof and reinforce the structure with a stronger metal frame to ensure long-term durability ($6,700).
Running Power to the Farm: There is no electricity on our farm, and we must extend power lines from 500 yards away ($1,900).
Purchasing an Incubator: We have the opportunity to acquire a high-quality, used incubator with a capacity of 5,000 eggs ($2,500).
Procuring the First Batch of Fertilized Eggs: To kickstart the hatchery, we need to purchase 1,500 fertilized eggs from a third-party supplier ($550 initially, with an additional investment of $1,250 to scale up to full incubation capacity). Moving forward, we will continue sourcing fertilized eggs externally to ensure a steady and reliable supply for our hatchery operations.
Buffer for Incidental Expenses: $500 to cover any unexpected costs.
With a total goal of $13,400, we can build a sustainable hatchery that will:
Once funding is fully secured, we can begin construction immediately. Within approximately one month, the hatchery will be operational, empowering local farmers and creating a sustainable solution to Mozambique’s poultry crisis.
Your support—whether through a donation or spreading the word—can bring this life-changing project to fruition. Together, we can restore stability, strengthen food security, and build a brighter future for Mozambique’s poultry farmers.
