This year has been a series of ups and downs for twenty-two year old Maria Naene. The year began with excitement and anticipation for her future. Her mother had helped her to enroll in nursing school and was helping to finance her education, but, tragically, just a couple of months into the year, her mother passed away. Reeling with the loss, Maria was also facing the strong possibility that she would no longer be able to continue her education. Without her mother's support, she had no way to pay, but unbeknownst to her, God was already orchestrating things in her favor.
In June, we were visiting some friends with another ministry in a neighboring province. They knew of Maria’s situation through one of her friends, so they brought her to our attention. With the help of a grant from our friends at Caring For Orphans Mozambique (CFO-Moz), we were able to step in to fill in the gap for this young lady to ensure she could finish her nursing education.
This week she began her first internship at a hospital about 5 hours away from home. During the course of her two year study, she will likely have at least one more internship. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for Maria in the years ahead.
When we assist a student like Maria in pursuing higher education, we cover their tuition, school fees, and materials. For those who have internships away from home, such as with nursing students, we also assist with food, lodging, and transport when needed. Each student’s need is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
