This year we began supporting the higher education of another student, Nelson Charles.
Nelson is 30 years old and lives with his beautiful wife and three precious daughters in Dondo, located in central Mozambique. He and his wife are very involved in their church. His wife helps lead worship and the church’s youth programs. Over the years, Nelson has served as an interpreter for many people in ministry. He even interpreted for Jason and I when we spoke at their church this past summer.
We first met Nelson when we were serving as Interim Base Directors of a large ministry in Dondo. At that time he was a 16-year old orphan in their care. Nelson enjoys evangelism, worship, and making a difference in other people’s lives. Like many of our other students, he is drawn to the medical field and wants to be a nurse practitioner. His gentle demeanor and smile could melt the hardest of hearts. We have no doubt that he will be a very caring medical professional.
Prior to his enrollment in school, Nelson was employed as a cellular phone credit vendor, but he found it very challenging to make enough to provide for his family. Nelson is very dedicated, and over the next 3 years, he will be commuting 45 minutes to the school where he will be taking classes 5 hours a day, 6 days a week to fulfill his dream to work in the medical field. Once he graduates, he will be able to seek employment in a field that will allow him to better provide for his family and make a difference in his community.
Please pray for God’s will to be done in the lives of Nelson and his family through this opportunity and for God to give him the strength to push through the challenges he will face.
When we support a student’s higher education, we cover their tuition, school fees, and materials. For those who have internships away from home, such as with nursing students, we also assist with food, lodging, and transport when needed. Each student’s need is evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Nelson and our other students need your support in order to complete their higher education. A student's educational needs can be completely covered for only $175 per month, but every dollar helps.
